* PWP watershed health is 1 of 12 identifiers for poverty in rural communities. If the watershed is not flourishing it is a direct link to the severity of poverty.

 

CONCEPT

We have a number of supporters who are excited about the impact of our program on poverty and fund us for that reason. However they are often skeptical about our environmental focus, and some have even suggested that it is a distraction from how effectively our work eliminates poverty. In reality, it is largely because we focus on ecological health that our poverty reduction work is so effective. We believe that a video in the style of a “Vox Explainer” would be effective in highlighting how these efforts go hand-in-hand. We can stage video collection in the Dominican Republic and complement it with archive footage from DR Congo, sent recordings from Tanzania, satellite images, and animation.

 

Below are images that we have gathered as inspiration for the direction of design and art we would like to create to authenticate this effort.

Art Direction // Vision // Script

Slow motion water droplet hits the paper and out from it radiates water colors that form a forest landscape.
We pull out to reveal the establishing shot of the country we are in and labels of that region pop up.
The picture turns into a topographic map, or a topographic map is positioned to the side of the landscape to reveal the topography of that watershed.
Animating graphics (arrows and water currents) demonstrate how the participation falls and hits the topography to really give the living experience of the watershed in that region. 

Note - each watershed region will be based off of actual map/science topography (as close as we can get). We did a project similar to this and based it off of google earth images as seen in the example below, Irreligious Highlights, specifically the map sections.

We envision this approach to have a narrative feeling that hinges on a strong V.O. narration of the likes of National Geographic and movie trailer type experiences.

We will move from one watershed to another demonstrating the various challenges each location faces while highlighting key moments to educate the viewers in a really engaging way.

Our hope is that the animation will be enlightening and extremely creative in approach. We don’t have to be locked into native live action as much in this approach. Excellent photography should suffice along with a few really amazing environmental film shots. Even abstract nature moments can sell this concept towards a rich experience for our audience: macro shots of water moving, soil, foliage and other textural nature moments will be part of our exploration moving forward. 

Note - You can use each topographic section on it’s own as it relates to other videos specifically centered on that region.

  • 2.6 million grant for Congo /PWP

  • PWP partners see a 40% reduction in poverty

  • Income / Savings group help to eliminate the need for school scholarships, child sponsorships, clinics, food subsidies.

  • Reduction in poverty where communities / neighbors share

  • PWP is intentional about supporting women and young girls through the watershed model, as the majority of the burden to collect water falls on this group in rural communities.

Lock in Project Overview (Contract)

  1. Highlight up to 9 locations that are presently where PWP operates for specific watershed examples

    • Burndi, Dominican Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethopia, Haiti, Mexico, Tanzania, Thailand, United States

  2. Create a loose script to design around V.O. considered for each video

  3. WPP designs the look and feel for (2) 1-3 min videos

  4. Design leads to animation and filming

  5. Delivery
